A live taping of The Free Press podcast Honestly with Bari Weiss
Jerusalem has been razed at least twice, besieged two dozen times and captured or recaptured on many more occasions. Yet the city—a shrine to three faiths—has endured, through war and fanaticism, imperialism and slaughter and the relentless march of time.
Drawing on newly accessed archives, Simon Sebag Montefiore has updated his acclaimed biography of the city, which tells this epic survival story. Lauded for its gripping prose and balanced approach, the first edition of Jerusalem has sold more than a million copies since its publication in 2011. The second edition, released in September 2024, helps draw the link between the current conflict and its historical context.
Montefiore will return to The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Cultural Center to speak about the challenges that have reverberated through Jerusalem’s history, right up to the present day. He will be in conversation with Bari Weiss, author of How to Fight Anti-Semitism, host of the Honestly podcast, and founder of The Free Press, which has extensively covered the war in the Middle East.
